About Us      We Believe  Contact Us

Woodshutts is a mixed certified organic grain and cattle farm in East Central Saskatchewan.  It is owned and operated by Sandy Lowndes and Susan Lowndes, and her two children, Truen & Tasso.  We keep approximately 100 crossbred breeding cows on our farm along with two horses (Buddy and Lucky),and three llamas (Margo, Bernard & Speckle).

Our cows go to pasture in April and stay out till November or later (weather permitting).  We calve on pasture in May-June and our cows say they love it, other than the odd coyote problem.  See, the llamas and the (now deceased) donkey were supposed to help keep the coyotes away, but the llamas were too busy mating and the donkey wouldn't come off the island, but that's another story.

We grow oats, red clover, winter wheat, winter triticale and some flax.  Our pastures are a mixture of brome grass, red clover, sweet clover, sainfoin, birds foot trefoil, dandelions, wild flowers and oh so much more!

Professional Service:

If you or your company requires an Organic Advisor you can contact Sandy Lowndes at sandylowndes@hotmail.com

As an Organic Advisor I can help make your workplace more organic friendly should you be in the market for organic clients.  I can advise you on appropriate language to use with the organic sector (sector not industry), your office atmosphere, demeanor and more.  You only get one chance to make a good first impression.

We Believe:

We believe in family farms and buying local.  Anytime we as consumers choose to buy directly from a small farmer we are putting more money in the hands of the farmer.  Anytime we choose to buy products that are made or grown locally we are cutting down on greenhouse gases.  Anytime we choose Fair Trade products from other countries we are helping small farmers around the world.

  • In 1961 the average Canadian spent about 25% of their income on food.

  • In 2006 we spent an average of 12% of our income on food.

  • There are 50% (+) fewer family farms today then there were in 1961.

Ever wonder who will be supplying us with tasty, healthy home grown food when all of the family farmers are gone?

Good, home grown, local, organic food costs money.

Animal Friendly.  We do not support people/companies that do not put the welfare of animals first.  We don't support farms that raise their animals intensively, confined to barns and we do not support companies that test their products on animals.

Farmer Friendly.  We're farmers.  We're small organic farmers.  We do not support large, intensive corporate farms.

We encourage you to be an informed and discriminating buyer.
